Year 4 had a fantastic day at the World Museum Liverpool yesterday! We spent some time exploring the Egyptian galleries and were fascinated by the artefacts there! The mummies were amazing to see and we enjoyed learning about why the Egyptians mummified their dead. After that, we had a fabulous session led by the museum which taught us all about mummification - Jack, Summer and Lilly were embalmers an even helped pull out the brains of the 'dead person'! After lunch, we spent some more time in the Egyptian gallery before heading off to explore the rest off the museum. We all enjoyed the bug house (big spiders!!!) and the dinosaur skeletons. Some of us even saw a replica of the Rosetta Stone and looked at how it helped us understand hieroglyphics. It was a fabulous day and was enjoyed by all!
Year 4 have a question to ask: Do you think it is right that the Ancient Egyptian mummies should be moved from their original burial grounds to be put in museums for us to look at? Or should their beliefs be respected and they be left in the pyramids and tombs? Please tell us what you think as we are discussing this in class at the moment.
