Dear Year 6 Parents,                                                                          September 2020

Welcome to the Autumn Term in Year 6. Mrs. Gomersall and I are looking forward to the new term and we have already planned many activities for the children.

Firstly, a few practical points:

Mathletics homework will be set the week commencing 14/9/20.

Spellings will be sent out on Monday and the test will take place on Friday afternoons with a weekly arithmetic quiz to monitor progress. All spelling tests are available on the year 6 blog.

It is vital that the children know their times tables therefore I will give the class ten minutes every day to work on their arithmetic, including tables to begin with this term. However, in order to perfect their tables they must still spend some time EVERY day learning them if necessary. Times Tables Rock Stars is a good vehicle to make the process fun.

We would be really grateful if you could enable your child to read as much as possible. We recommend twenty minutes every day. Diaries need to be signed by you and will be checked on Friday mornings. Homework will be written on the board on a Monday morning and the children will be expected to copy this into their diaries.

The blog will be used for writing homework. I will assign an activity every Monday. The blogs will have a WAGOLL (what a good one looks like) to help your child with the writing process.

PE – every Monday and Wednesday for this half term. Children need their full kit including trainers as we are concentrating on fitness and teamwork until the half term holiday. Run-a-mile will also take place daily (weather permitting).

Our science topics this half term are Inheritance and Evolution and Classification of Living Things. We are also studying: The Mayflower400 Project, Blackpool - History of a Victorian Seaside Town, Food Technology, Computer Coding and our first R.E. topic is Love.

Please do not hesitate to contact me. The Do-Jo app is a great way of staying in touch and I encourage you to sign up.

Hopefully, there will be an opportunity for you to discuss your child’s progress with me in October. I look forward to seeing you.

Kind Regards,

Mrs. Beesley
